According to SEPA (Smart Electric Power Alliance) research, the solar market grew by 20.1% in total capacity in 2018.
In total, 7.3 gigawatts of solar capacity was added in the United States in 2018. That’s the equivalent of more than 22.8 million solar panels.
The most significant growth area came from utilities investing in solar.
In 2018, there was a 15.1% increase in utility supply capacity. Growth in Florida, Texas, and Minnesota was especially robust.

However, on Jan. 22, 2018, the United States Federal government levied a 30% tariff on solar imports.
